For example, the Vanucci *VAB-12 SympTx Lady*. Genuine entry-level touring boots with a special women’s fit and excellent features. Ideally equipped with a SympaTex membrane (waterproof, windproof and breathable), zips on both sides (so that they are easy to put on) and an anatomically shaped, 5 mm Ortholite X40 inner sole. The *VAB-12 SympTx Lady* even provide toe protection. All wrapped in robust hydrophobised cowhide leather. Top quality. These breathable boots are windproof and waterproof. However, the boots are only breathable with functional socks. While cotton socks retain moisture, functional socks first transport sweat and moisture away from the foot into the boots. The breathable boot membrane then takes over and transports the moisture completely out of the boots, thus ensuring breathability.

The membranes are manufactured from different base materials, depending on the brand, and are made either as a loose "liner", as a laminate (bonded to the outer material), or as a coating on a carrier material.
The SympaTex membrane is made of polyester, and transports water vapour molecules outwards by means of chemical reactions. Different materials are tailored to the various applications in the field of motorcycle clothing.
All climate membranes are sensitive to mechanical damage: if a membrane is pierced, clearly it can no longer provide protection. Damage can also result from the use of inappropriate washing agents. Softeners, including those contained in detergents, damage the membrane irreparably!
